Spring is here and it seems like just yesterday that I was writing an article for the 2023 Newsletter.
Thank you to the Hillcrest Civic for sponsoring another successful St. Patrick’s Day
Parade! It had to be the biggest and best yet. I am not sure if we want it to get any bigger!
Board Members Dave Gunster and Tom Moss applied for and received a small Communities Grant from Broome County to upgrade the Port Crane playground. There will be some excavation work required in one area. Please abide by any signs or limited
access during the construction. We hope to complete this upgrade in the Spring.
We accomplished most of the projects we had planned for 2023. While we were paving and rebuilding many of our streets and roads, our counterparts in Broome County and the State were completing the Chenango Street project. Also, the new multimillion dollar Chenango River Bridge connecting the Town of Fenton in Broome County with the Town of Greene in Chenango County was completed.
Phase One of our Town Hall improvements was started after initially receiving no bids in the first offering. Construction did begin, but the Winter months put a hold on progress. By the time you read this, I hope we are back on track. The improvements will make it much easier to access the building. We appreciate your patience in the meantime.
Our Conservation Advisory Committee (CAC) has been working with New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) on energy saving activities including energy audits of the Town Hall. The points they have accumulated from the high impact projects they have completed have resulted in the Town being designated as a Clean Energy Community by NYSERDA. This has led to the award of $15,000 in Grants so far that can be used to implement additional energy saving projects. The CAC continues to work on other high impact projects.
On a personal note….at the end of this year, I will have served on the Town Board for 26 years. The last six years I have served as the Town Supervisor. It seems there are always projects that you have not quite finished; however, I have decided it is time to let the next person continue the good things that have been started and start new ones. I have met a lot of great people throughout the years. Thank you for the
